Dr. Jessica Maccaro

Dr. Jessica Maccaro got her PhD in the CIBER (Center for Integrative Bee Research) lab and Department of Entomology at the University of California, Riverside. Her scientific research has centered around symbiotic relationships between microbes and bees, with a special focus on necrophagous bees and pathogenic fungi. As an NSF fellow and Gluck fellow for the arts, she has always been at the intersection of art and science with symbiosis as the connective theme. Her work spans lichen and insect macrophotography, to symbiosis poetry, experimental choreography, entomological drag, jazz, microbiology, illustration, and entomology.
